Apple’s WWDC 2022 conference is today, and much has been made of the chances of new hardware launches. As reported by Ars Technica (opens in new tab), anti-malware software on Mac runs in the background and isn’t visible to end users the way that Microsoft Defender is on Windows. Apple first began including anti-malware protection back in 2009 through a system service called XProtect. The service itself downloaded and installed new malware definitions in the background in order to help protect Mac users from known and prevalent malware....

WhatsApp is rolling out some huge changes (opens in new tab) set to make the service that much better — and in some cases much closer to competing messenger apps. Among the changes are the ability to react to messages with emojis, send files up to 2GB in size and even bigger group chats. Also, WhatsApp’s much requested edit button is finally being tested. Previously group chats could include up to 256 people at any given time, which is already a pretty big number....

J.D. Power just posted its Initial Quality Study for 2020 model-year cars (opens in new tab), and it’s not good news. According to the findings, supply chain issues have caused a decline in vehicle quality across the board — with an 11% drop year over year. That’s the steepest drop ever recorded by the group, and the likes of Tesla and Polestar are right near the bottom. The survey is based on input from 84,165 verified drivers, who either owned or leased the cars between November 2021 and February 2022....

According to hardware analyst Brad Lynch (opens in new tab), the virtual reality headset will soon be entering mass production with Chinese manufacturer Goertek tasked with ensuring there’s enough stock to satisfy the demand (likely an impossible task). Lynch notes that production of the device will begin “soon." The headset being prepared for mass production would indicate that Sony is planning a full reveal in the near future. After all, it’s highly likely that the design and specifications of the headset would leak once the hardware is being mass-produced, and Sony will obviously want to showcase the headset before that can happen....
