Apple unveiled the iPad Air 5 during its March Peek Performance event. While the new tablet shares many similarities to the iPad Air 4, it’s gotten our attention thanks to one key upgrade: the Air is now powered by Apple’s impressive M1 chip. This invites direct comparison to the iPad Pro 2021, which was the first Apple tablet to feature the M1. And since the 11-inch iPad Pro 2021 is nearly the same size as the iPad Air 5, suddenly these two tablets are far more similar than they’ve ever been....

According to tipster Max Weinbach (opens in new tab), Apple could unveil the iPhone 14 on September 6. Weinbach’s sources also claim that the iPhone 14 release date will be September 16th (the day it would go on sale). However, we don’t fully trust this rumor for a couple of reasons. Apple tends to hold its iPhone launch events on the second Tuesday of September, which would have the iPhone 14 range unveiled on September 13....

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported (opens in new tab) that “weather, calendars, stocks, activities and other data” are the kind of things you’ll be able to have on the iPhone’s always-on display (AOD). In addition, there will apparently be an Apple Watch 7-style setting to avoid displaying any sensitive info on the AOD. This way, anyone who catches a glimpse of your phone won’t accidentally see any personal data. Gurman already had the iPhone 14 Pro tipped to get an AOD, but now reports that Apple is finally making the move to use a feature some of the best Android phones have had for years, thanks to iOS 16 and the redesigned lock screen....

Anyone hoping to skip the iPhone 14 to get their hands on a better zoom camera may find they have to wait an extra year to get it on a regular-size Pro iPhone. A new post from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (opens in new tab) claims that Apple may adopt a periscope telephoto camera on the iPhone 15, but initially just for the iPhone 15 Pro Max model. We’ve heard rumors of a periscope camera on the 2023 iPhone before, but this claim from Kuo adds a new wrinkle....

Kuo predicts that the design will be similar to the home button found on the iPhone SE, which first arrived on the iPhone 7, instead of the current mechanical button design. That will include taptic engines to provide feedback, and simulate the feeling of pressing real buttons. There may not be a mechanical clicking button involved, but you do get the sensation that something has happened — rather than just experiencing the effects....

All eyes are on the iPhone 14 series at the moment, but we’re already hearing rumors about what the iPhone 15 range might have to offer — starting with under-display Face ID. That’s according to sources speaking to Korean site The Elec (opens in new tab), who say Apple could team up with Samsung to offer an under-display Face ID system in the iPhone 15 Pro. This design change would apparently see Face ID live underneath the screen, with only a single hole to give the front camera an unobstructed view....

Google rolled out new Android features, one of which is digital car key sharing for Android phones, starting with Pixel phones and iPhones. This means that if you use Car Key through your Apple Wallet app on your iPhone to unlock your car, you will be able to share the feature with a family member who owns a Pixel phone. Even better, Google says it is working on rolling out support for all Android 12+ devices soon....
